Arsenal beat Newcastle United 4-0 with record team goal

Arsenal started the match slowly and in the first 30 minutes, they did not pose any threat towards Newcastle United goal.

There was nothing to separate the two sides at half-time following a scoreless first half but Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang broke the deadlock on 54 minutes before Nicolas Pepe doubled the Gunners’ advantage just a few minutes later.

Newcastle had chances to get back into the game – both Ciaran Clark and Allan Saint-Maximin went close – before Mesut Ozil and Alexandre Lacazette scored late on at the Emirates.

Mesut Ozil’s goal was a record-breaking one after all 11 Arsenal players were involved in the build u, totaling 35 passes before the German stuck home the third Arsenal goal and his first in the last 10 months or so.

Arteta, who turned down the chance to succeed Rafa Benitez as Newcastle United manager last summer, was pleased with how his side took control of the game after winning just their second league game of 2020.

“We found it difficult, the first 20/30 minutes, I would say. They are really compact, really organized and we talked a little bit before the game that you can get a little bit frustrated and start to make rash decisions and when that happens your team doesn’t travel together and it becomes a transition game and they are so good,” he told reporters after the game.

Arsenal’s next game will be against Olympiacos in the Europa League.
