Arsenal have agreed on a deal to send Lucas Torreira to Fiorentina for a £7m loan fee, with a £14m obligation to buy next summer.

Arsenal Agree deal to send Lucas Torreira to Fiorentina

The Uruguayan hit the ground running at the Emirates when he arrived in a £26m deal from Sampdoria in 2018 but his form dipped under Unai Emery and he’s failed to impress Mikel Arteta.

Arsenal were hoping to recoup all £26m they paid for him but under the current economy after the coronavirus pandemic, it seems that it is no possible.

In early Arteta days, Torrerira used to partner with Xhaka in a 4-2-3-1 formation but then got injured, after the injury he was unable to get back in the team due to the loss of his own form and the emergence of Xhaka- Dani Ceballos pivot that looks more stable.

Dani Ceballos is coming back for another year on loan, there is noise about the club wanting to sign Thomas Partey who has a release clause of £45m, that makes the chances of Torreira cementing a place in the starting lineup are narrow and the club needs the money to fund Partey move.

It will be sad to see Lucas Torreira go but it is a necessary move given his underwhelming performances last season following an exceptional first six months in 2018-19.
