Mustafi arrives in London amid rumours of £25m Arsenal move

Shkodran Mustafi has flown-in to London to meet up with the Valencia squad amid reports that he could be heading to Arsenal in a £25m deal this summer.

Mustafi arrives in London amid rumours of £25m Arsenal move

Arsene Wenger has confirmed his intention to sign a new central defender before the start of the new season after losing Per Mertesacker for five months with a serious knee injury.

Mustafi has emerged as a prime target in recent days with the Mirror one of several media outlets who reported over the weekend that Wenger is keen on signing the German international.

The newspaper claims that Mustafi is interested in making a move to the Emirates while Valencia are understood to be willing to do business at around £25m – despite the 24-year-old’s buyout clause being set at £42m.

When quizzed about his interest in the German defender after Arsenal’s friendly win over Chivas last night, Arsene refused to rule out a move for Mustafi. The boss is quoted as saying by Arsenal.com:

We have not closed any deal with anybody at the moment. That’s the answer. You speak about Mustafi. Is it Mustafi or anybody else – we haven’t concluded anything at the moment.

Coincidentally, Valencia are due to play two pre-season friendlies in London this coming week as they take on Bournemouth on August 3rd before facing Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park three days later.

According to reports, Mustafi flew in to Gatwick Airport with two of his Valencia team mates [Siqueira and Bakkali] on Monday and the centre-back joked with a customs officer about the possibility of him joining Arsenal.

With the player and Valencia officials set to be in London for the next week, you’d think this is the ideal time to get a deal thrashed out if we want to sign Mustafi this summer.

There is little doubt we need a new defender now that Mertesacker is out and Mustafi would be a solid addition as he’s developed in to a fine centre-back during his two years at Valencia while he’s also regular in Joachim Low’s German squad.

The 24-year-old is a good age and he’s also capable of playing at right-back if required, so I think he’d be a great signing and this looks likely to be a key few days in our pursuit of the player.

Arsenal told us Alexis Sanchez is not on the market-Juve

“Arsenal told us Alexis Sanchez is not on the market,” reveals Juventus director Beppe Marotta, even after being quoted a €40m price-tag.

Arsenal told us Alexis Sanchez is not on the market-Juve

The rumours linking Juve with a swoop for Sanchez have been around for several week, ever since Real Madrid activated their buy-back clause on Alvaro Morata.

“Sanchez is a great player, but Arsenal told us he is not on the market,” Juventus chief Marotta told El Mercurio newspaper in Chile.

“We had asked for the player’s price-tag and Arsenal valued him at €40m, a sum that we considered reasonable.

“However, once we replied to their demand, the English club let us know that he was not for sale.”

Sanchez is only under contract with the Gunners until June 2018.

The €40m price-tag currently translates to £34m, but it’s possible the figure was quoted before the Brexit vote – when the value of the pound plummeted.

Arsenal agree deal to sign Japanese striker Takuma Asano

Takuma Asano

Arsenal announced that they had completed a transfer deal for Takuma Asuma on Sunday and fans of the club are desperate to know more about the young striker.

Even the most die-hard Gooners would admit they know next to nothing about Asano who will seal a move to the Emirates once a medical and regulatory processes have been done.

However, supporters may have noticed the 21-year-old has been cropping up in pictures performing his unique lion-esque celebration – and he’s had a lot of practice after scoring 21 goals in 83 appearances for former side Sanfrecce Hiroshima.

Well actually, it’s not a lion at all…Asano has been nicknamed the ‘Jaguar’ back in his native Japan as a result of his lightning quick pace on the field.

The Japan international was once measured running 50 metres in a rapid 5.9 seconds – Theo Walcott does 40m in 4.42s, to put that into perspective.

‘Takuma is a talented young striker and very much one for the future,’ Arsene Wenger said after a deal for Asano was wrapped up.

‘He has had an impressive start to his career in Japan and we look forward to him developing over the next couple of years.’

Arsenal Hand Number 25 Jersey To Kelechi Nwakali

New Arsenal recruit Kelechi Nwakali has been handed the iconic number 25 jersey made popular in his homeland by former Super Eagles star Nwankwo Kanu, CEO of his nursery team Emeka Amajiriaku has revealed.

Arsenal Hand Number 25 Jersey To Kelechi Nwakali

The Gunners have already started yielding to the demands of the Nigeria U20 international, who specially requested for the shirt number after agreeing a five-year deal with the Emirates outfit.

“Arsenal have informed us that Kelechi has been handed the number 25 jersey. He was trying to get that number because of Kanu Nwankwo, so he’s happy they gave it to him, ” said ASJ Academy supremo Amajiriaku to allnigeriasoccer.com.

Nwakali, who clocked 18 years earlier this month, is still with the Nigeria U20s , and the coaching staff led by Emmanuel Amuneke and the Nigerian Federation will have to give the go-ahead before he travels to London for his official unveiling.

“Kelechi is no longer our property, we can’t decide when he’ll travel to London. No one knows the mind of Arsene Wenger, they need him urgently but we want him to play for Nigeria.

“The coach and the Nigeria Football Federation will have to decide,” added Emeka Amajiriaku.

Former England U21 star Carl Jenkinson was handed the number 25 kit by Arsenal last term but did not play competitively for the club as he was farmed out on loan to West Ham.

Olivier Giroud: ‘Jamie Vardy wants to join Arsenal’

Olivier Giroud has claimed that Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy is keen to join Arsenal this summer after his £20m release clause was met by the Gunners.

The England international, who found the net 24 times for the Foxes last season to spearhead their unlikely charge to the Premier League title, has reportedly already held talks with Arsene Wenger over a move.

Leicester boss Claudio Ranieri admitted on Saturday that Vardy is now free to talk to other clubs, but the former Fleetwood Town man has yet to speak publicly over his future plans.

However, fresh from scoring twice in France’s 3-0 win over Scotland, Giroud was confident that Vardy would become his teammate at the Emirates Stadium sooner rather than later.

“I have been told that Jamie wants to join us and it’s very good news for us. I think we can be complimentary and that’s all I can say,” he told Sky Sports News. “He’s a fantastic player, so it’s good news for us.

“As I said in the past I am happy with competition. We have always had fantastic strikers at Arsenal and I want the best for this club. Hopefully he is going to help us win this title.

“The boss wanted to sign at least one or two strikers, so I expected a top striker and I think it will benefit the club and hopefully he is going to score a lot of goals like he did at Leicester.”

Vardy is currently on international duty with England, as the Three Lions prepare for their opening Euro 2016 fixture against Russia in six days’ time.

Arsenal trigger release clause for Jamie Vardy

Jamie Vardy  loyalty to Leicester looks set to be tested with the news that Arsenal have reportedly made a bid for the striker.

Arsenal trigger release clause for Jamie Vardy

Guardian reporter Stuart James tweeted that Arsenal have triggered the release clause in Vardy’s contract. Of course, that doesn’t automatically mean that the striker will depart.

Famously, Arsenal did the same with Luis Suarez in the summer of 2013, making a bid of £40m for the striker, which was his release clause, plus one pound.

Stuart James tweeted:

Understand that Arsenal have triggered the release clause in Jamie Vardy’s contract. Leicester still determined to keep hold of him.

Also SkyBet have been forced to slash their odds on Jamie Vardy joining Arsenal after a flurry of large bets backed the Leicester City hitman to make the move to North London this summer.

SkyBet confirmed on Twitter earlier today that they’ve been forced to make Arsenal the 8/13 favourites to sign the Foxes hitman after a flurry of large bets were placed backing him to make the move to North London this summer.

Manchester United are second favourites at 20/1, West Ham are at 25/1 while Manchester City are 28/1 to be the strikers next club, so as you can see we are the clear front-runners.

Vardy has just come off the back of a sensational season that saw him score 24 goals to fire Leicester to a shock Premier League title win and he’s set to play an important role for England at Euro 2016.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang should join Arsenal this summer

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has been told a move to Arsenal would be good for his career.

ADVICE: Aubameyang has been told Arsenal would be good for him

The Borussia Dortmund striker is on the radar of a host of Europe’s top sides.

Aubameyang’s international team-mate Daniel Cousin claims the Gabonese should head to north London.

Former Hull City and Rangers striker Cousin, who represents Gabon with the Borussia Dortmund star, says it’s the right time for his compatriot to move to the Premier League.

While predicting Aubameyang would also be a success at Manchester United and Manchester City, Cousin admitted he would love to see his teammate sign for the Gunners.

When asked by the BBC World Service to pick one club for the 26-year-old to play for next season, Cousin said: ‘Arsenal, because the team play very well but the team need another striker to win the title.

‘And I think if he plays with Ozil, he will give good assists. I think he can play very well with this team.’

Arsenal agree deal with Granit Xhaka

Granit Xhaka

Arsenal have reached an agreement with Granit Xhaka to join the club on a long-term contract for an undisclosed fee.

The 23-year-old Swiss midfielder arrives from Borussia Monchengladbach, who he captained to fourth place in the Bundesliga last season and Champions League qualification in the past two seasons.

I’m very proud to be joining Arsenal. I cannot wait to move to London, represent this special club and play in the Premier League. I will give everything to help Arsenal win trophies and make the fans happy

Granit Xhaka

Xhaka, who has made 41 international appearances for Switzerland, joined Borussia Monchengladbach in 2012 from his hometown club FC Basel where he spent 10 years, progressing through the youth ranks.

During his time with Basel, Xhaka won two Swiss League titles and the Swiss Cup in a Double-winning season in 2011/12.

Arsène Wenger said: “Granit Xhaka is an exciting young player, already with good Champions League and Bundesliga experience.

“We have been watching him for a long time now and he is a player who will add quality to our squad. We wish Granit a good Euro 2016 with Switzerland and look forward to welcoming him to Arsenal ahead of next season.”

GRANIT XHAKA jetting in to London to finalise Arsenal move

GRANIT XHAKA has signed for Arsenal and is on his way to London to finalise the deal, his close friend has confirmed.

Kosovan journalist and friend of Granit Xhaka, Artan Muhaxhiri, has confirmed that the Swiss international is en-route to London to finalise a deal with Arsenal, suggesting that our first transfer business of the summer is almost complete.

Muhaxhiri took to Facebook to reveal the news, displaying a picture of himself with Xhaka and announcing that an agreement was close to being reached. This bit of confirmation is among the most concrete of the reports we’ve had so far, and it really looks as though Xhaka will be an Arsenal player very soon.

Granit Xhaka journalist

Muhaxhiri wrote on Facebook: “LATEST NEWS: It was confirmed today that Granit Xhaka will go to London to finalise the deal with Arsenal FC! Granit Congratulations!”

And Muhaxhiri’s relationship with the Switzerland international seems to be backed up by a photo on his Facebook profile that shows him at an informal dinner with the 23-year-old.

There was speculation in the German press that Xhaka’s move to north London was stalling over price, having previously agreed personal terms with the Premier League club.

The latest reports say Arsenal made an offer in the region of £34million, which may well have been accepted if Muhaxhiri’s claims are correct.

Gladbach confirm offer for Arsenal target Xhaka

Berlin (AFP) – Borussia Moenchengladbach have confirmed receiving an offer for Swiss international midfielder Granit Xhaka, who has been heavily tipped to join Arsenal.

Gladbach confirm offer for Arsenal target Xhaka

Gladbach’s sports director Max Eberl told the Rheinischen Post that an offer has been received, but not revealed from which club, for their 23-year-old captain, Xhaka, who has said he can imagine playing for the Gunners.

The defensive midfielder has also said a decision about his future will be made before the European championships begin in France on June 10.

German media report that the transfer would cost Arsenal at least 43 million euros (£33.2m, $48.5m), plus bonus payments, as Xhaka has three years left on his contract.

Speaking to Swiss television, Xhaka said he is the “wrong person to ask” about a move to Arsenal, but could picture himself wearing the famous red and white shirt.

“Whether or not there are talks, the clubs Gladbach and Arsenal know, but as of now I am still a Gladbach player,” he told Swiss broadcaster SRF.

Having played in Gladbach’s final German league game of the season last Saturday, his post-match comments sounded like a farewell after making 108 Bundesliga appearances for Borussia since 2012.

“We have had some experiences which no one will ever forget,” he said after their 2-0 win at Darmstadt which left Gladbach fourth in the table having qualified for a Champions League play-off place.

“It could be that that was the last game for me.

“There will be a decision made before the European championships and we’ll make it together,” he added, referring to his current club Gladbach.

Granit Xhaka is reportedly on the verge of completing a move to Arsenal

The Switzerland international has been on the Gunners’ radar for some time as Arsene Wenger looks to revamp his squad.

Reports emerged yesterday claiming Arsenal were on the brink of agreeing a deal for his transfer after sorting out personal terms.

German publication Bild suggested there were disagreements over a fee with Monchengladbach wanting £35.2million (45m euros).

But according to Italian journalist Emanuele Giulianelli, both teams will agree on a price today.

He tweeted: “Xhaka fee should be agreed tomorrow. Clubs meet today. #Arsenal.”

With a deal in motion, Gladbach released a statement confirming they’d received an offer for the midfielder.

“Sporting director Max Eberl has confirmed that there has been a specific offer for the Swiss midfielder,” the post read.

“An agreement with the interested club is still pending.”

Xhaka would be a welcome addition to Wenger’s midfield with Mathieu Flamini, Mikel Arteta and Tomas Rosicky all set to leave the club.

The 23-year-old’s arrival would see him compete with the likes of Mohamed Elneny, Francis Coquelin, Santi Cazorla, Jack Wilshere and Aaron Ramsey for a starting spot.
