Alexis Sanchez ready to take surprise step to force through move to Man City

Alexis Sanchez is so willing to join Pep Guardiola and Manchester City this summer that he is prepared to take a lower weekly wage off them than rival clubs in for his signature.

Alexis Sanchez ready to take surprise step to force through move to Man City

With just one year remaining on his Arsenal contract, the 28-year-old Chilean international is still refusing to renew as he also seeks to leave before the end of this transfer window. Bayern Munich, Paris Saint-Germain and Juventus have been interested in making a move but The Independent understands that Sanchez favours City, even though they would offer a lower wage than all of those European rivals.

Bayern have actually already been put off by the size of the terms quoted to them to get the Chilean – believed to be over £250,000 a week – and one feeling expressed by those close to the German club is that it is because he so wants to go to the Etihad to reunite with former Barca manager Guardiola.

Arsenal would similarly be able to go to £300,000 a week in any new contract for the star striker – in what would be the club’s biggest ever deal – but he has no willingness to agree to a new deal.

Those who know the player say he is conscious of the fact he turns 29 in December and has not actually won that many trophies in his club career – only one European league title, with Barca – so his next move is genuinely all about trophies and where he believes will offer the best opportunity to win them.

It is also why he wants his future resolved in this window, and it is understood he would accept an offer of lower than £300,000 a week to go there.

Arsene Wenger however remains resolute in his absolute refusal to countenance the sale of the player.

Arsenal to bid for Antoine Griezmann

Sensational news in the media today is claiming that Arsenal manager Arsène Wenger is preparing to make a big statement of intent in the summer transfer window and will make a record breaking £85 million move for Manchester United target Antoine Griezmann.

Arsenal to bid for Antoine Griezmann

The Gunners were linked with the signing of Griezmann last summer but the former-Real Sociedad star chose to remain with Atlético Madrid. The forward has endured a difficult season by his standards so far with Atléti with reports claiming he is unsettled and will seek to leave the club in the summer.

Arsenal will however have competition from Manchester United, Chelsea, Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester City for the signature of Griezmann if reports are true. United in particular are said to be clear favorites for the signature of the player, but if it is true that Wenger is ready to move for Griezmann, he must have been given encouragement from somewhere to think he and Arsenal have a chance of signing the Euro 2016 Player of the Tournament. Wenger is certainly influential among players playing in the French league or for France but I doubt that will have any influence on who eventually ends up signing Griezmann.

The North London club’s reported interest in Griezmann is however interesting. Could it be that the Gunners now know Alexis Sánchez will not be signing a new contract and are making moves to replace him? The Chilean is entering the final 18 months of his current deal which means there is a chance Arsenal will either sell him this summer or lose him on a free transfer the following year. Knowing Arsenal, the Gunners are most likely to sanction a sale should Sánchez refuse to sign a new contract offer.

It would not be a surprise either if the club is merely playing on the fans’ intelligence by leaking out a supposed interest in Griezmann to the press. I simply can’t see Wenger paying £85 million for a single player.

Antoine Griezmann has season scored 21 goals and created 11 assists in 37 games in all competition for Atlético Madrid so far this season.

Santi Cazorla signs new Arsenal contract

Santi Cazorla has signed a new Arsenal contract.

The Spanish midfielder’s old deal, penned in 2015, was due to expire at the end of this season.

Arsene Wenger had hinted that the club would take up an option they had to extend it by a further year – and they have done just that.

There has been no official word from the club as of yet – but documentation released by the Football Association proves the deal has been done.

Cazorla has been sidelined since October 19 with an Achilles injury and had to undergo a second operation on the problem last week.

He joins Per Mertesacker in extending his stay in north London. The German also had a one-year extension taken up on his existing contract.

Arsenal youngster Eddie Nketiah has signed his first professional contract with the Gunners.

Nketiah joined Arsenal in 2015 after he was released by Premier League rivals Chelsea at the age of 14, and he has been earning rave reviews with the Gunners.

The 17-year-old was top scorer in the country at under-18 level last season, netting 24 goals in 28 games, and he has already scored three goals this season.

The teenager is highly regarded at the Emirates Stadium and is seen as a star in the making for Arsenal.

A number of clubs were monitoring Nketiah’s situation at Arsenal, but the Gunners have moved to tie down the striker to a three-year professional deal.

Nketiah has been likened to former Gunners hero Ian Wright in his style of play and his rapid progress is being monitored by Arsene Wenger and his coaching staff.

Arsenal complete signing of defender Shkodran Mustafi from Valencia

Shkodran Mustafi

Arsenal have completed the signing of Germany defender Shkodran Mustafi from Valencia for a reported fee of £35 million.

Mustafi, 24, is the third major signing for manager Arsene Wenger this summer after central midfielder Granit Xhaka joined in May from Gladbach and £17m striker Lucas Perez arrived from Deportivo La Coruna on Tuesday, taking the club’s spending to over £90m in this transfer window.

The German solves a defensive crisis for Wenger’s men after Per Mertesacker and Gabriel Paulista were injured in preseason. While 20-year-old Rob Holding has impressed in the team’s first three games, Mustafi is expected to earn an immediate starting role alongside Laurent Koscielny in Arsenal’s back four.

Mustafi will join up with his new teammates after the international break, and both he and Perez should be available for Arsenal’s next Premier League game against Southampton on Sept. 10.

Arsène Wenger told the club’s official website: “He is at the right age. He has good experience. He is a very focused player who can play with the ball as well. We have taken a great player but have prepared well for the future.”

The defender established himself as one of Valencia’s top players last season and already has plenty of international experience, helping Germany win the World Cup in 2014 and also playing at the European Championship this summer. He said on Sunday that fellow Germany international Mesut Ozil had helped convince him to join the Gunners.

“He told me everything I wanted to know. Everything was positive, so I was convinced very fast. It did not take much,” Mustafi told Sky Sports Germany.

“I have always loved Arsenal, I like how they play here, it is not typical English. The game here is more like in Spain and with the German national team, keeping the ball on the grass, so it was easy to convince me.”

Arsenal confirm Lucas Perez signing

Arsenal have confirmed the signing of Lucas Perez from Deportivo La Coruna.

The 27-year-old striker’s arrival was confirmed by the Gunners this afternoon.

Perez scored 19 goals in all competition last season, including 17 in 36 La Liga games.

He started the 2016/17 campaign in similar form, finding the net against Eibar in Deportivo’s season opener.

Discussing his new signing, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger indicated that Perez had been signed for his assists as much as his goals.

He told the club’s official website: “He’s not only a goalscorer, he’s a guy who combines well with partners, who can give a final ball and makes good runs. He’s got a good eye for goal and had an outstanding season last year.”

The deal had been widely expected, with Wenger having confirmed over the weekend that Perez had passed a medical ahead of his transfer.

Perez started his career in Madrid with the reserve teams of Atletico Madrid and then Rayo Vallecano. He moved to Ukraine to join Karpaty Lviv and later moved to Greece with PAOK in Greece. He returned to his native region of Galicia with Deportivo – initially on loan – in 2014.

Spanish Reports Say Arsenal Could Sign Lucas Perez Today

Guillem Balague believes Lucas Perez is a top-class striker amid reports of an impending move to the Premier League.

Sky Sports News are reporting that the Deportivo La Coruna centre-forward is set fly to the English capital to undergo a medical at the north London club.

Arsene Wenger has been heavily linked with a striker throughout the summer but the Arsenal manager has been left frustrated in his attempt to bolster his attacking options.

The 2014 and 2015 FA Cup holders were rejected by England striker Jamie Vardy earlier this summer after the Premier League winner decided to stay and sign a new contract with Leicester City.

The three-time Premier League winners were also left stumped in their pursuit of France forward Alexandre Lacazzette after Lyon confirmed that they had turned down an offer from Arsenal.

But Sky Sports News’s La Liga expert Balague believes Perez will prove a good signing for the Gunners.

“Someone who scores 17 goals in La Liga should be considered a top signing, especially when you consider Perez did that at Deportivo,” Balague told Sky Sports.

“He’s fast, has a powerful left-footed shot, he’s clever and has been abroad already in Ukraine and Greece.

“That experience makes him different to other Spanish strikers that struggled in the Premier League in the past.

“He can play as a number nine or, more likely, on the right-hand side of attack.”

Arsenal are closing in on Valencia defender Shkodran Mustafi

Arsenal have agreed to pay €41 million to sign Valencia’s Shkodran Mustafi, with the purchase of the Germany defender and Deportivo la Coruna strikerLucas Perez set to take the north London club’s spending in the summer transfer window close to close to €120 million.

Arsene Wenger has been under pressure to strengthen his defensive options after long-term injuries to Per Mertesacker and Gabriel, with Mustafi identified as the Frenchman’s No1 target weeks ago.

Having initially bid around €23 million for the 24-year-old, who was on Everton’s books as a teenager before moving to Sampdoria in 2012, Valencia were insistent that he was not for sale.

However, negotiations have continued since then and an agreement was finally reached on Friday, with Mustafi set for a medical before the weekend having agreed personal terms with the club.

The news will come as a huge relief for Arsenal supporters after a poor start to the season that has seen them pick up just a solitary point from their opening two Premier League fixtures.

Mustafi looks set to be joined in north London by Lucas, who scored 17 goals last season and opened his account for this season with the winner against Elbar last Friday. The 27-year-old, who was also wanted by Everton, has a buyout clause of around €20 million and is also expected to travel to London on Friday to complete his move.

Spanish Reports Say Arsenal Could Sign Lucas Perez Today

The Lucas Perez to Arsenal reports are spreading quickly in the Spanish media. El Confidencial reported late on Wednesday evening that Perez would ‘almost certainly’ be set to leave Deportivo La Coruna and join Arsenal.

Following on from them, Spanish newspaper Marca say there’s now ‘total agreement’ between the clubs for the transfer to take place, that’s also between the two clubs. Unless there’s a turnaround, Marca believe Perez can become a Gunner today.

Arsenal will pay the player’s €20m release clause, and Deportivo are content for the move to happen. Marca do point out that the ball is now in Perez’s caught, and he could turn the move down, but they clearly don’t expect that.

Deportivo are already looking for a replacement for the player, which shows how they feel about the situation.

Perez will sign up for three or four years, according to Marca. He turns 28 years of age on September 10th, is left footed and plays primarily as a striker, but can operate a little further back or on the left wing.

Last season, Lucas Perez was the 11th top La Liga scorer with 16 goals.

 Joel Campbell

Portuguese side Sporting have announced the signing of Arsenal and Costa Rica forward Joel Campbell on a season-long loan deal.

Campbell, who scored four goals in 30 appearances in all competitions for the Gunners in 2015-16, has moved to the Estadio Jose Alvalade to secure more first-team football.

The 24-year-old joined Arsenal in 2011 from Costa Rican side Deportivo Saprissa in 2011 and will now embark on his fifth loan spell.

Campbell spent the 2012-13 campaign on loan at Ligue 1 side Lorient, scoring four goals in 27 appearances, before being shipped out to Real Betis the following season.

The San Jose-born attacker enjoyed his most prolific loan spell to date with Olympiacos during the 2013-14 season, scoring 11 goals including a strike against Manchester United in the last 16 of the Champions League.

Campbell found the back of the net just once in 20 games during a temporary spell at Villarreal in 2014-15, before playing a bit-part role for Arsenal last season.

L’Equipe: Mahrez to Arsenal could be completed quickly

L’Equipe: Mahrez to Arsenal could be completed quickly

Mahrez to Arsenal could be completed quickly

Leicester City’s Riyad Mahrez was always going to be a big talking point of the transfer window after his outstanding performances for the Premier League champions last season.

Arsenal are reportedly interested in signing the Algerian international, and reports suggest they’ve placed a bid of £35m.

Yesterday L’Equipe consultant Gilles Favard claimed on Twitter that Arsenal have made a bid of £35m after an offer of £30m was rejected.

Favard also tweeted “Mahrez to Arsenal soon”, and L’Equipe on Thursday back up those claims.

L’Equipe second that Arsenal have made a bid of £35m for Mahrez, who they believe is determined to sign for the Gunners.

Ranieri recently claimed Mahrez is happy at the club, and that it’s important to keep him, but L’Equipe believe that might not be the case in reality.

Apparently, according to a close source, Mahrez is ready to push his transfer to Arsenal, who are ready to offer him a long term contract.

L’Equipe say Arsenal could quickly complete the signing of Mahrez, but a deal before this weekend is a bit unlikely as Leicester are reluctant to let him leave.
