Arsenal Beat Chelsea in the Community Shield

Arsenal have won their first trophy of the season after beating Chelsea 4-1 on penalties in the Community Shield at Wembley on Sunday afternoon, with Nigeria international Victor Moses finding the net for the Premier League champions.

The Gunners had the upper hand in the first half but they could not translate their dominance into goals.

New signing Alexandre Lacazette came close to breaking the deadlock when he attempted to bend the ball round Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois but it hit the post in the 23rd minute.

On 35 minutes, Pedro went for goal after a delightful crossfield pass from Willian inside his own half but drew a brilliant save from Cech.

A minute before half-time, Iwobi was in a tight situation and could not score from close range.

Forty-nine seconds into the second half, Victor Moses opened the scoring, the right wing-back was onside and rifled home after a well-timed run.

Egypt international Mohamed Elneny came close to grabbing an equalizer with a fierce, swerving strike from a tight angle, which Courtois managed to save.

For the second time in ten weeks, Chelsea had a player sent off at Wembley after Pedro Rodriguez was shown a straight red card for a late challenge on Elneny, and he’ll miss the Premier League clash versus Burnley as a result.

In the 82nd minute, Arsenal were back on level terms thanks to Sead Kolasinac’s fine header after a ball was floated into the far post.

Theo Walcott, Monreal, Oxlade-Chamberlain and Olivier Giroud were spot on in the shootout, while Courtois and Morata missed for Chelsea.

Stephy Mavididi joins Preston North End

ARSENAL have announced Stephy Mavididi will join Preston North End on season-long loan.

Mavididi will spend the year at the Championship side and look to gain first-team experience.

The 19-year-old has scored three goals in two appearances during pre-season and new manager Alex Neil will hope he can help their playoff push.

Last season, Mavididi went on loan to Charlton Athletic and but it was cut short by a severe hamstring injury.

Earlier this week, the teenage striker revealed he had recently received advice from Arsenal legend Ian Wright.

“After I got injured I got a phone call from Wrighty and he was just giving me some advice and just being really nice to me and helping me,” Mavididi told

“He just said that I’m still young, that I’ve got a big future ahead of me, just to keep looking at the bigger picture.

“In the bigger picture, it’s a minor setback, only five months out of the game and just keep working hard and come back stronger.

“You’ve just got to be mentally strong and take it day by day, and as the day goes that’s a day closer to fitness, so you’ve just got to keep digging and just pull through.

“We’re still keeping in contact, so yeah that was a nice touch from Wrighty and Karl Robinson too, to put me in contact with him.”

Sanchez kisses the badge and stays at Arsenal

Alexis Sanchez has been training hard at Arsenal. And today he did the unthinkable: he kissed the badge.

Might it be that Sanchez wants to remain at Arsenal, the club offering him £280,000 to extend his current contract? The Mirror says Sanchez” will tell Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger this week that he wants to join Manchester City.”

But he hasn’t told him yet. And even if he does, Wenger’s non-plussed. “He is focused. My decision is clear, he will stay. He will accept that,” says Wenger. He adds: “The frame of mind of a footballer is quite easy – once you go out into the game, you focus on that.”

Rafael Predicts Lacazatte to be a Hit at Arsenal

Ex Manchester United full-back Rafael predicts that Alexandre Lacazette will be a big hit at Arsenal. The French striker joined the Gunners from Rafael’s current club Olympique Lyonnais in a £50m deal this summer.

Having spent a season playing alongside Lacazette in France, the Brazilian thinks Lacazatte will be a canny addition for Arsenal’s front line, “He is a player I admired, and still admire, a lot,” Rafael told

“He is a very smart player, he knows how to score. He’s very fast and that is all an attacker needs to succeed. I think he will do very well at Arsenal,” explained the right-back, that joined Manchester United from Fluminense in 2008, before joining Lyon last summer.

“I think he will adapt to the Premier League and that won’t take very long. In the early games he might struggle a bit, but he will be fast, which is important.”

Nigerian born striker Chuba Akpom continues to impress in pre-season for Arsenal XI, netting again in their 5-1 hammering of Leyton Orient in a friendly on Tuesday.

The Gunners named a strong starting line-up, with Akpom, Jenkinson, Debuchy and Nketiah all starting.

The the youngstar doubled Arsenal’s advantage in the 14th minute following a neat passing move on the edge of the area.

Eleven minutes before half-time, Chuba Akpom limped off the pitch injured, and was replaced by Malen.

In the game watched by 2,006 spectators, Bielek, Mavididi, Jenkinson and Nketiah all registered their names on the score-sheet for Arsenal.

Arsenal played in this game with many players who are not be expected to be part of Arsenal Wenger plan for next season, most of the players played today they are expected to be sold or let go on loan for the coming season.

Arsenal hope to sell seven, but wages a problem

Arsenal hope to sell seven, but wages a problem

Arsenal’s plans for a summer clear-out have been ‘delayed’ by players ‘refusing to take pay cuts’.

The Gunners have sold just one player so far this summer, with goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny departing for Juventus in a £10million deal.

Arsenal hope to sell seven, but wages a problem

Szczesny is the only player to have left for a fee, with the club looking to offload a number of others.

Jack Wilshere, David Ospina, Kieran Gibbs, Carl Jenkinson, Lucas Perez, Calum Chambers and Mathieu Debuchy have all been ‘deemed surplus to requirements’ by Arsene Wenger, and are free to leave, according to the Daily Mail.

But the north Londoners have encountered a problem in that their unwanted stars are on relatively high wages.

Potential buyers, with Watford, Crystal Palace, Fulham, Galatasaray and Sampdoria among those linked with the above septet, are ‘reluctant’ to match the current figures the players are paid.

‘Arsenal stand to slash £19million off their annual wage bill if they can secure deals for their players,’ and they are hoping to free up funds for at least one more signing.

The club may have to lower their asking prices as a result, with any potential windfall likely to be used in a move for Monaco winger Thomas Lemar.

Arsenal are closing-in on the signing of Thomas Lemar

Arsenal are closing-in on a £45m deal to sign French attacker Thomas Lemar after finally making a breakthrough in negotiations with Monaco, according to The Sun.

Arsenal are closing-in on the signing of Thomas Lemar

Arsene Wenger has been chasing Lemar all summer after identifying the youngster as a prime target as the boss looks to further strengthen his squad after missing out on the top four last season.

Monaco have proven extremely difficult to deal with as the Ligue 1 champions have been desperately trying to keep their title-winning squad together following a number of exits but it seems they may now have admitted defeat.

The Sun claim that after slapping an £80m valuation on Lemar’s head earlier this month to try and deter Arsenal, Monaco are now willing to do business at a more realistic figure and a transfer could be wrapped-up by the end of the week.

The newspaper says Arsenal are now close to agreeing a £45m deal following a breakthrough in the negotiations and Lemar is already believed to have agreed personal terms over his move to the Emirates.

We’ll have to wait and see if other media outlets come out to confirm The Sun’s report but if true, then it looks like Lemar is set to become Arsenal’s third signing of the summer following the arrivals of Alexandre Lacazette and Sead Kolasinac.

The French international enjoyed a superb campaign last season as he scored 14 goals and set-up a further 17 for his team mates to help Monaco win the Ligue 1 title and reach the last four of the Champions League.

he 21-year-old is capable of playing anywhere across the attacking midfield positions so he’d give Wenger plenty of options in the final third, and I think he’d be an excellent addition to the squad if we do end up luring him to north London.

Alexis Sanchez ready to take surprise step to force through move to Man City

Alexis Sanchez is so willing to join Pep Guardiola and Manchester City this summer that he is prepared to take a lower weekly wage off them than rival clubs in for his signature.

Alexis Sanchez ready to take surprise step to force through move to Man City

With just one year remaining on his Arsenal contract, the 28-year-old Chilean international is still refusing to renew as he also seeks to leave before the end of this transfer window. Bayern Munich, Paris Saint-Germain and Juventus have been interested in making a move but The Independent understands that Sanchez favours City, even though they would offer a lower wage than all of those European rivals.

Bayern have actually already been put off by the size of the terms quoted to them to get the Chilean – believed to be over £250,000 a week – and one feeling expressed by those close to the German club is that it is because he so wants to go to the Etihad to reunite with former Barca manager Guardiola.

Arsenal would similarly be able to go to £300,000 a week in any new contract for the star striker – in what would be the club’s biggest ever deal – but he has no willingness to agree to a new deal.

Those who know the player say he is conscious of the fact he turns 29 in December and has not actually won that many trophies in his club career – only one European league title, with Barca – so his next move is genuinely all about trophies and where he believes will offer the best opportunity to win them.

It is also why he wants his future resolved in this window, and it is understood he would accept an offer of lower than £300,000 a week to go there.

Arsene Wenger however remains resolute in his absolute refusal to countenance the sale of the player.

Sanchez “not for sale”, says Wenger

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has reiterated that the Gunners will not sell star forward Alexis Sanchez this summer.

Paris Saint-German and Manchester City are both keen on signing the Chile international, who has one year left on his Arsenal contract and is stalling on signing a new deal.

Sanchez "not for sale", says Wenger

But Wenger says Arsenal will not sell the 28-year-old, who scored 30 goals and contributed 13 assists in all competitions last season.

“The decision has been made and we will stick to that. The decision is not to sell,” Wenger said.

Sanchez stated at the weekend that he wanted to play for a club that could “win the Champions League”, but Wenger insists that the two-time Copa America winner can fulfil his ambitions at the Emirates Stadium

“We played 20 years in the Champions League,” he continued.

“That’s 17 years before Sanchez arrived and three years with him, so he can get us back in there.”

The Frenchman also played down Sanchez’s comments about the Champions League, insisting that the player’s comments had been taken out of context.

“I don’t give too much importance to things that are translated, you know,” he added.

“The whole interview that I got didn’t really mean that.

“The main focus for us is to concentrate on the Premier League and the Premier League for me today is more important than the Champions League.”

Lacazette Will Score Goals For Arsenal – Iwobi Predicts

Arsenal Nigerian forward Alex Iwobi says Arsenal record signing Alexandre Lacazette will no doubt score lot of goals for Arsenal, when the football seasons begins in England.

Lacazette Will Score Goals For Arsenal – Iwobi Predicts

Lacazette was signed by Arsenal for a fee in the region of ‎£46m from French side Olympique Lyon, and the 26 year old hit the ground running for the Gunners by netting his first goal in his debut game against Sydney FC in Arsenal’s first pre season game.

Iwobi who supplied the pass to the French man during the game said in a television interview monitored by Michael James that Lacazette will no doubt score goals for Arsenal.

“He (Lacazette) will bring goals and already there is a good chemistry with the rest of the team,” Iwobi said in a television interview.

“There is a lot to see from him. “We suffered a drought mid-season and other minor setbacks, but in the new season, we hope to win as many games as we can,” he said.
